I recently attended my first blogger event and it was a really wonderful night.
I was so grateful to be invited to the Viking Picture Perfect event at The Botanist in Newcastle by the lovely Jennie. I’d been excited about the event for months and when the day finally came around, I was super nervous and had no idea what to expect. As I’d never been to something like this, I was worried I’d feel slightly out of place or awkward. But, of course, I had no reason to be. Everyone I met was lovely and the evening was so much fun.
When I arrived, fashionably late due to my train being delayed, I was greeted with a glass of prosecco and I sat with Kloe, Abbey and Sally who were happy to let me tag along with them for the evening.
Viking collaborated with the fantastic pro photographer Elouisa Georgiou to create a photography masterclass for us. Elouisa firstly talked us through the photography basics. While I normally play safe with my camera on auto, she challenged us to switch to manual to create better quality images and provided her expertise.
We were then set fun photography tasks to capture images using bounce boards, prisms and flat lay designs. The part I found most difficult was for sure the prisms. I just couldn’t get my head around how they worked, but I wasn’t the only one. However, as with most skills, it all comes with practice and with Elouisa’s advice, I’d love to give it another shot.
I’d never been to The Botanist before which is crazy considering how many times I’ve been to Newcastle. It was so scenic and perfect for photography. However, we mainly stayed outside on the terrace to take shots because the natural lighting was great out there. One of the barmen even offered us cute props to use and the staff were a great help. The layout of the bar was beautiful and I didn’t catch the name of the girl who was singing that night but she was amazing and really added to the relaxed atmosphere.
Check out some of my favourite photos from the night:
Following our fun with the cameras, we were treated to some delicious food and a free cocktail. I chose the Strawberry and Cucumber Breeze which was served tall with a slice of cucumber and strawberry. I would highly recommend! I definitely want to come back for date night in the future.
We then all printed off our favourite photograph from the night and it was up to Elouisa to pick a winner. Before we all parted ways, we were gifted with a tips pack to continue our improvements in photography and a small tripod! That was a lovely surprise.
Huge thanks to Viking and Jennie for the invite and thank you to Elouisa for all of the amazing guidance throughout the night.
I had the best night with the best people and I learned so much from this experience. My photography could and hopefully will improve from this point onwards and I hope I attend many more fun blogger events.
