The Mountain Between Us | An Emotional Rollercoaster

(Spoilers- of course).

As part of date night, I took a fortuitous trip to the cinema. On a semi-strict time limit, we decided to see The Mountain Between Us. I didn’t even need to read the plot, all I knew was that Idris Elba was in the cast and I said yes!

The film involves Idris Elba and Kate Winslet as the main characters. They become stranded on a snowy mountain and have to battle surviving and searching for help.

Kate’s character, Alex, is a photojournalist so I related on an occupational level. Idris’ character, Ben, was such a loving guy and had a very emotional backstory including his ‘patient’ which really tugged at my heart strings.

I had no real expectations of the film and practically went in blind. It began fairly slowly and the introductory scenes were making me feel like I’d made the wrong choice. But, once the action started and the plane crashed, I was on the edge of my seat.

There were so many tense moments and near death experiences. I gasped, jumped and cringed multiple times while trying to remain cool in front of my friend. I did not look cool at the end of the film…

What was a survival movie, turned into a romance. Alex and Ben formed such a strong bond throughout the film, that we as an audience were so involved in. When it reached the end and Alex and Kate still weren’t together, I started to get emotional. The close up shots of their faces as they were walking away from each other showed the physical and emotional pain they were both going through by leaving each other again and I just broke. I cried. I felt like such a fool but I couldn’t help it, I was so emotionally invested.

10/10- would see again.

PS. I’m very glad the dog survived even if it might have seemed impossible!

This sounds like a great film!!!
The crying was probably very necessary in an emotional film like this, I would have been the same 🤷🏽‍♀️
